The moving wall, developed by AstralPool, which makes it possible to divide a single pool into several different pools, was installed at the end of last year in a newly-built pool complex supported by the Government of Turkmenistan, a country which borders Iran and Afghanistan.
The main feature of the moving wall is the versatility . It is built on a lattice metal structure and is supported by two longitudinal tracks inserted into the pool decks. The wall, which was installed in the modern complex in Ashgabat, the country's capital city, measures 27 metres, has a walkway width of 1.2 metres, a height of 2 metres and weighs 8 tonnes.
The AstralPool moving wall was built with an automatic traction system which allows the position in the pool to be changed via remote control. By way of the stainless steel wheels, it moves over a length of 25 metres and allows for the changing of the size of the pool basin. For example, it can go from a 25x50 metre pool to two 25x25 metre pool basins.
Another one of the main features of the moving wall installed in Turkmenistan is its equipment: starting block, stainless steel top rails and lane-line rope tubes, which means the lane-line ropes do not have to be dismantled upon movement of the wall.
After the material arrived in Turkmenistan , assembly of the moving wall was completed in about 20 days, thanks to cooperation from the ARTES company, the Turkish firm in charge of building the pool. The moving wall was ready, once it was confirmed that it complied in full with International Swimming Federation regulations.
